Fiscally Responsible Leadership

Ila Mettee-McCutchon understands the importance and diversity of our economy and her record of economic accomplishments in Monterey County is unmatched.  As Mayor of Marina, Ila increased jobs, city services and revenues.  Ila helped to create over 1,500 new jobs in Marina with most of those going to local residents.  She increased the vital services and staff in the police, fire and public works departments.  Additionally, salaries were increased in Marina while maintaining a budget surplus of over $3 million.

It is critical in these difficult economic times that we have a leader on the Board of Supervisors with a level of experience in creating jobs partnerships that brings jobs and promotes healthy economic policies.  As Supervisor, Ila will use her experiences to improve economic opportunities in job production, housing and redevelopment, and helping small businesses grow.

Ensuring and Supporting Public Safety

Ila is a strong advocate of public safety with a record of working closely with law enforcement to ensure that they have the tools needed to protect our community.

Ila Mettee-McCutchon supports the Monterey County and City of Salinas Joint Gang Task Force and will work to secure the additional federal funding needed to expand its operation.  The safety of our children, streets and neighborhoods from drugs, gangs and gang violence must be the top priority.

In Marina, Ila Mettee-McCutchon made public safety a top priority by increasing the critical services of fire, police and public services without any new taxes.  Ila was responsible for increased staffing for Marina’s police and fire departments, and invested in public safety technology for peace officers and firefighters in order to make them more compatible with other local public safety organizations.  These improvements provided the City of Marina with a more efficient, well trained and state of the art police department.  Under Ila’s leadership, Marina is now one of Monterey County’s safest cities.

Leadership with Balance

Ila Mettee-McCutchon is the only candidate for 4th District Supervisor with a real record of protecting Monterey County’s environment.

As Garrison Commander of both the Presidio of Monterey and Fort Ord, Ila led the environmental cleanup effort on the former Fort Ord while managing over a $100 million annual budget that ensure the meticulous cleaning of munitions an waste on over 28,000 acres.  The environmental cleanup was the most extensive cleanup effort that Monterey County had ever undertaken.  Cleanup efforts involved the treatment of soil throughout Fort Ord, removal of lead munitions from coastal ranges and the return of land and coastal ranges to historical states prior to the building of Fort Ord.

Today, two-thirds of the former Fort Ord is designated as permanent public open space.  The reconstitution of several sensitive habitats and protection of endangered species such as Smith’s Blue Butterfly. the Legless Lizard, the California Tiger Salamander and the Snowy Plover Bird was accomplished.  In addition to the environmental protections achieved, today there are many recreational trails that exist on portions of these community open space lands.  As Mayor, Ila was also one of the leaders in the effort to achieve a “scenic highway” designation for Highway One along the former Fort Ord.  This effort involves local, state and federal cooperation.
